Zipper Nails

It's been a while since I posted!! Been busy and been getting sick quite a bit this month...

Anyway, this post will feature a super funky nail art... Zipper Nails!

I really enjoyed wearing this design.  It made my nails look like they're being opened with a zipper! Lol.  I used purple and green as my colors, but you may of course choose any color for it.  I think it's best to pick contrasting colors, though. :)

So let's get started!

Materials:

1. Base Coat
2. Top Coat
3. Nail polish in: purple, green and silver
4. Toothpicks
5. Extra fine paint brush

Procedure:

After applying base coat, paint all nails green.

Using a fine paint brush and purple polish, paint random V's on the corners of your nails.

Now fill in the nails with purple polish, leaving the inside of the V's green.

Using either a toothpick or a fine paint brush, paint silver horizontal lines along the sides of your V's.

To make the zipper head, paint an inverted triangle and a rectangle below that using a toothpick.

As always, finish with top coat, and you're done!!

Helpful Tips:

  • If you do not have a fine paint brush, you may skip Step 2, and go straight to painting your second color over the first color.  Just be sure to be careful and leave a big enough triangle to show your first color.
  • Play around with colors! Not only can you change the 2 contrasting colors into colors of your choice, you can also change the color of the zipper.
  • Because of the fine details of this design, please wait for the nail polish to be really dry before applying top coat.  The fine details of the zipper are prone to smudging. :)

Rainbows and Shimmery Skies

The sun has finally shone on Manila after days of devastating rain.  In thanksgiving and celebration of fair weather, I have decided to create a rainbow-themed nail design.

Rainbows and Shimmery Skies
Materials:

  1. Base Coat
  2. Top Coat
  3. Nail Polish in: sparkly blue, red, medium blue, yellow and white
  4. Thin paintbrush
  5. Big dotting tool
Procedure:

After applying base coat, paint all nails with sparkly blue nail polish.

Use a big dotting tool to make clouds on the tips of the nails.  (I've accidentally started painting the rainbow on my pinky here before taking the picture... Sorry!)

Use a thin paintbrush dipped in blue polish to create arches for the rainbows.

Do the same with yellow and red polish.
As usual, finish off with top coat, and you're done!!

Helpful Tips:

  • If you do not have a sparkly blue nail polish like the one I used, use a regular blue nail polish and top with glittery top coat.
  • Another option for this design is to keep the sky a solid shade of pale blue, then top either the rainbow or the clouds with glittery top coat. It might just work ;)
  • If your nails are long enough, you may use as many colors as you wish for the rainbow :)
